What a marvellous help AI is ….until it’s not!

Sometimes when you google Humanists for Life, a summary appears before you get into the website. This summary seems to contain the main points made in the website material or in the stance of the organization that the website refers to. I used to think it was written by a person.  Now however I am given to understand that it is usually produced by AI. All well and good. However, recently in the case of Humanists for Life, the description contained a serious error.

The Error

The summary wrongly stated that Humanists for Life support what it called the’ End of Life Choices Bill’. The summary was probably referring to the ‘End of Life Choice Act’. And we are against it, because this Act is seriously harmful. The reasons are set out elsewhere on this site. The fact that the summary got the name of the legislation wrong suggests other errors are likely as well.

Hackers

Sometimes also there may be a risk of hackers getting in and inserting misleading material.
The lesson in all this is, we had best be careful with what we read. We can cross-check material and retain a certain amount of healthy skepticism. We believe in the power of being rational. Humanists for Life is happy to be challenged and to answer questions. If we describe legislation, we like to refer to specific sections, so you can look it up for yourselves. You can go to the parliamentary website and access legislation for yourself.
If we have made a mistake, we are happy to correct it.

A New Year’s Resolution

Let’s make 2026 a year of accuracy and accountability. This will be very appropriate for a General Election Year.
